Carrots, apples and mango baby food

This is one of FB's favorites.  I decided to mix the the foods after shopping and seeing that combination on a commercialized baby food.  I had all three in the house so why not, right.  Here the recipe.

3 large carrots peeled and diced (I used a handful of baby
carrots because that's what I had, and peeling just sounds awful).
1 granny smith apple (peeled and diced)
1 mango (peeled and cut into chunks)

I steamed the carrots and apples for 25 minutes, drained a lot of the excess water and then added the mango.  Then I pureed the combination and viola!  FB goes ga ga over this stuff!  This makes us about 6 servings.  You can't beat the price either, $1.62 for 6 servings.

A few things you should consider if you decide to make your own baby food.  Always make sure the food is the right consistency for your child.  Start off very smooth and gradually work your way up to a little lumpy.  As always check with your pediatrician and find out what foods are appropriate for your baby's age group.  Also, the price I listed above is not for organic, I always wash all fruits and vegetables before using.

If you've thought about it, you should give it a shot.  I work outside the home 30 hours a week and I was not that domesticated a few years ago.  I love making FB's food.  I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.  It doesn't take as much time as you think.  Just try to do a lot at once so you aren't making food every couple of days.  I'll spend 1 or 2 hours making the food for the week.  Most of that time is the food cooking, so I can do other things; more important things like spending time making messes with my girls!

I use to make my own baby food too when my kids were little. Now I have grandchildren and my one daughter makes her food also. This combination is quite interesting. I will give my daughter the recipe to try. Thank you!

I agree peeling carrots is not fun, lol I never would have thought to put carrots and mango together either! As long as he likes it, great! Thanks for sharing :)

I see these recipes and how easy they are and them feel like such a bad mom. LOL When my kids were babies I fed them all commercial food. they are grown now and starting to have kids of their own. I pass on these recipes to them so that my grandbabies get the best start in their lives.

We love mangos! I never thought to use them in baby food - I must have thought they were too exotic? Anyway - thank you for ideas on what to mix them with! This will be great for my little little ones!
