No Space for a Garden? Let's fix that!

The Messy house is animal friendly.  Before I had children, when it was a clean house, I would rescue and foster animals in my home.  Shortly after Hurricane Katrina there were 26 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in and out of my home within a 2 week period.  So needless to say, I have acquired a couple of them that will NEVER leave.

I have a nice size yard and I like to garden, however with the family members that I mentioned earlier, it is a bit difficult to grow anything.  So, I've finally figured out how to grow a nice vegetable garden.  I decided I would buy a raised garden bed kit.  WOW!  Have you checked out the prices on those lately?  It's outrageous!   I decided there has to be a better way.

So I am digging around in my shed one day and see an old plastic baby pool which has a hole in it and I decide to throw it out.  HOLD UP!  Wait just 1 minute there Messy Mama, I think we have a plan!  Drama, Diva and I head to the hardware store to buy some paint.  The girls and I decide we are going to paint this blue plastic baby pool yellow, green and purple.  Why not right?

After we paint it and make more of a mess out of ourselves, I took the drill and made several holes at the bottom, this will allow for the water to drain out if there is a very heavy rain.  I then placed a layer of gravel on the bottom, to keep the dirt from washing out through the holes.  Then I dumped a bunch of dirt in there!  VIOLA!!!  A beautiful unique raised garden bed that was a lot of fun to make!  Now it's off to the nursery to buy some plants!

The girls and I picked out a bunch of vegetables that I'm hoping they'll eat now that we have the Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetable, ENTER HERE for your chance to win  a copy.

We enjoy watering all our plants everyday and the girls are so proud!  We have plainted pumpkin, zuchinni, squash, eggplant, carrots and cabbage this year.  As you can see all of them are growing nicely.  I will be watching craigslist for some more unwanted
baby pools to expand our garden next year.

If you don't have much space for a garden, or even no grassy space, give this a try.  You could put this on a balcony or a deck.  Maybe you could place it on a driveway or a porch even.  No matter what your living situation, you could probably find a baby pool large or small enough to fit your space.

Great idea for repurposing an old pool. I need to find one and make a little garden area for my preschooler and I to work in together.
